Porsche has revealed the new Cayman at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new mid-engine, 2 seat sports coupe will be sold as a 2014 model. The Cayman will receive either a 2.7L flat six making 275bhp or a 3.4l flat six making 325bhp. Either engine can be mated to a six-speed manual gear box, or Porsche’s optional PDK 7 speed transmission. The S model equipped with the PDK transmission will accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds.
The exterior has a fresh and modern look, featuring a more sculpted body on a 2 inch larger wheelbase. The larger wheelbase should offer better road handling and comfort for the two passengers. The shape remains instantly recognizable with larger hood scoops on the side, and larger front bumper openings. The center exit exhaust remains as well, with the S model getting dual center exit exhaust tips.
The interior has also been refined with Porsche’s newest interior styling. The interior layout features a swooping center counsel that extents from the dash allowing the placement of number of useful switches. This interior layout, as expected, remains close to what the 991 uses.
Sales will start in the spring of 2013 with the Cayman S pricing set to start at $64,750 and the base model will hit showrooms at $53,600. As usual, there will be a extensive set of options to choose from which can drastically increase the base price of either model.
