Alfa Romeo is planning to launch 8 new models in the next 3 years, and the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia will go on sale alongside the 4C by 2016. The Giulia is a four door, rear-wheel-drive sedan that will go toe to toe with the A4, 3-series, and C-Class.
Alfa Romeo’s replacement for the 159 sedan, the Giulia will be one of the first models built on the company’s new rear and all-wheel-drive architecture. This will make it the first rear-wheel-drive Alfa sedan since the 1992 model 75.
The Giulia will feature bold Italian styling that was heavily influenced by the mid-engine 4C sports car. Test mules have been spotted wearing modified Maserati Ghibli bodywork to hide the Giulia’s exact styling. However, the size and length will be similar to it’s competition and the Giulia is expected to have a wide and low look.
The car will be powered by a range of six-cylinder engines offering as much as 320 horsepower. There is talk of a high-performance Giulia, dubbed the Cloverleaf, which may come with as much as 500 horsepower to help fight off the AMG and M-series rivals.
Alfa Romeo’s head of design has been quoted as saying that the design of the Giulia has been one of the hardest challenges they faced. The model not only has to look good, but also stand the test of time. Judging by previous Alfa models, we don’t have any doubt that the Giulia will be absolutely stunning.
This may be a make-it or break-it model for Alfa Romeo, and you can certainly bet that the 2016 Alfa Romeo will not only look like a exotic Italian auto, but embody Alfa’s DNA philosophy of driving bliss. That should be a formula for success.
Below is a gallery of some renderings which may hint at how the Giulia may look.
