Audi is recalling 342,867 models in the USA, with a total figure of 1.16 million worldwide. The recall affects models equipped with the company’s famous 2.0L TSFI four-cylinder E888 Evo2 engine.
Models affected include: 2014-2016 Audi A4, 2013-2016 Audi A4 Allroad, 2013-2017 Audi A5, 2012-2015 Audi A6, and 2013-2017 Audi Q5.
The recall was issued due to a faulty coolant pump which can short-circuit, overheat, and start a fire. Additionally, the pump design could allow debris to enter the electric motor which could also make it overheat and start a fire.
Audi has been aware of this issue and tried an ECU revamp, which hasn’t cured the problem. To resolve the problem permanently, Audi will install a new pump with a “pressure compensation element” to prohibit moisture entering the electric portion of the pump and overheating it.
If you own one of these vehicles, Audi will issue recall notices on or before June 11, 2018.
