After numerous spy photos, track testing, and teasers the Corvette ZR1 is finally here. It is fitted with a 6.2L supercharged V8 that produces 755 horsepower and 715 ft-lbs of torque. That makes the Corvette ZR1 one of the fastest, most powerful production cars on the market today.
While performance numbers haven’t been released yet, the ZR1 is expected to hit 60 mph in under 3 seconds and definitely reach a top speed of over 200 mph. Buyers will have a choice between a seven-speed Tremec manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic.
To match the extreme performance, GM has fitted the Corvette ZR1 with a very aggressive aero package. The ZR1 gets huge hood vents, tall rear spoiler, extended front spiltter, and wider air inlets on the front bumper. There is extensive use of carbon fiber for weight reduction as the hood, removable roof panel, and rear quarter vents are made from the lightweight material.
The brakes and suspension have also been tweaked to handle the extra power. A set of carbon ceramic front brakes will slow down the car from triple-digit speeds, while the tuned version of the magnetorheological shock absorbers will keep the car planted.
The interior features highly bolstered sport seats, special badging, and a flat bottom steering wheel amongst other changes.
Pricing hasn’t been released yet although a good guess would be a starting price of about $130,000. The ZR1 will be available as both a coupe and convertible with an expected 2,000-3,000 units being produced.
