VW has prepared a special model for Wörthersee 2018, a big VW show held in Austria. The Golf GTI TCR will be the most powerful GTI ever with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out 286 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque driving the front wheels via locking front differential.
The GTI TCR will only be available with a DSG transmission, and no manual transmission will be offered.
Top speed of the GTI TCR is estimated at 164 mph without restrictions.
Sneak preview pictures show an aggressive rear diffuser with a dual exhaust system. The wheels look bespoke for the TCR, while slotted brake rotors are visible through the wheel spokes. The front gets a spoiler lip and the side skirts look more aggressive. Overall, the look is in line with German design.
The model is expected to be released at the end of 2018. Pricing has not been announced yet.
